Application Process

CO2 Blue are actively involved in writing Methodology’s for a number of Carbon Capture schemes situated both here in the UK and overseas. The projects range from forestation to green modes of transport i.e. electric vehicles through to renewable energy projects like Solar Farms. The first step is to take an in-depth assessment of any particular project and to then guide it through the often complex process of an application. In most cases we would be able to determine if a project is likely to be accepted within a three month period so as part of this service you will be allocated with a personal Methodology consultant who will conduct an initial audit of your business primarily to obtain information regarding you Carbon Footprint. Corporate and Social Responsibility

There are many reasons for a business to apply for a methodology regarding Carbon Capture, the main one reason is having the ability to create Voluntary Carbon Credits to create a secondary revenue stream. The Voluntary Carbon Credit market is currently worth close to $100 Million USD per Year.

There are 3 main bodies that are responsible for verifying and issuing the certification for Carbon Methodology. This is the source of creditability and is designed to offer protection in regards to the carbon that is generated. Having a verified carbon credit ensures that there is complete transparency from issue right the way through to retirement. All companies that purchase carbon credits voluntary will only do so if the scheme or project has proper certification this is not only by way of formality but is a way of ensuring the best possible price.

The three main bodies that CO2 Blue would use depending on the type and style of methodology that is required would be: Verified Carbon Standard The Gold Standard Foundation and Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) – United Nations.

Projects and Methodologies:

Below is just few examples of different projects that have had a methodologies and certifications awarded in order to generate carbon. Such projects can have the relevant certification attributed within a period of 18 months to 2 years. Whilst in the first instance a 3 month period would be an accurate guide to determine if a project has any future for writing a methodology. CO2 Blue can help by writing methodologies for a project or scheme that generates carbon. This is a fantastic way to generate a second revenue stream and also take advantage of the green environmental credentials that would be attached.

The April Salumei REDD Project is the pilot project for Papua New Guinea. The aim of the project is to protect the forest and biodiversity of the area (603,579ha) whilst providing an important source of income for the traditional owners. The project is located in the district of Bekoratsaka, in the northwestern part of Madagasca Reforestation of deforested land in Madagascar through the establishment of a training centre for sustainable forestry development. The local population depends on subsistence agriculture and lives in extreme poverty. Lands are in process of degradation, mainly due to uncontrolled wild-fires. The local cooperative “Avotrala”, whose members are the communities that live around the project area, owns the project. Avotrala is supported by the Swiss non-profit organisation "EcoFormation". A centre has been built for vocational training and collaborations have been established with Swiss Universities for knowledge exchange. One project activity that started in 2011 is the reforestation of 6,000 hectares of degraded land that is not further used for agriculture, with fast growing exotic species as well slow growing, high value indigenous species.
